Phil was raised on a horse and cattle farm north of Lexington. When he moved into town to attend the University of Kentucky he decided this was the right place to establish a business. Since his first starter in 1980 Phil has continued to build a powerful stable of both horses and owners. Notable stakes performers such as the recent Grade 1 placed Don't Tell Sophia and Grade 1 winner Hot Cha Cha, are a constant reminder that Phil is capable of developing high caliber racing stock.
The oldest of Phil's two boys has joined the operation as an Assistant. Matt spent his youth working on the family farm in Georgetown, learning how to care for the racehorses when they came home to be freshened. Naturally, when the time was right, he found himself on the backside. Now, Matt supervises aspects of the daily training operation such as feeding, medications, and saddling.
